The Mail tab is a unified inbox for all connected email accounts. Messages are synced from providers (Gmail, Outlook, IMAP) and stored locally in the vault. The assistant can search, summarise, draft replies, and compose new messages, but nothing is sent without explicit approval.
The inbox
Viewing messages
The inbox shows synced messages in reverse chronological order. Click a message to read the full content, including threaded replies, attachments, and labels.
Emails render in their original HTML format in a sandboxed frame. A toggle at the bottom switches between the original view and plain text.
Filters
Filter buttons above the inbox narrow the view:
- All shows every message.
- From people shows messages from known contacts only, filtering out automated mail.
- Unread shows only unread messages.
- Sent shows outbound messages.
- Labels opens a dropdown to filter by provider labels (e.g., Gmail labels).
A search bar searches across subjects and body text.
Actions on a message
When reading a message, the toolbar offers:
- Reply opens the composer with the sender pre-filled and the original message quoted.
- Reply all appears when there are multiple recipients.
- Forward opens the composer with the message body and attachments included.
- Unread marks the message as unread and returns to the inbox.
- Snooze hides the message until a chosen time. Presets include "Later today", "Tomorrow", and "Next week", or a custom date and time can be set. Snoozed messages reappear at the scheduled time.
- Archive removes the message from the inbox at the provider (Gmail archive, Outlook archive).
- Delete moves the message to trash at the provider.
Composing email
The composer
Press Compose to start a new email. The composer has fields for To, Cc, and Bcc (toggle Bcc with the button), a subject line, and a message body.
If multiple email accounts are connected, a From dropdown appears to choose the sending account.
AI-assisted drafting
Between the recipients and the message body, there's an assistant input. Type a brief describing what the email should say ("tell Kate we're confirming Thursday at 10am and ask if she needs directions"), then press Draft. The assistant writes the email body based on the instruction, and the result appears in the body field ready to edit.
Subsequent instructions refine the draft. "Make it shorter" or "add a line about the parking situation" will update the body without starting over. Previous instructions appear as chips above the input so the editing history is visible.
The body can also be written or edited by hand at any time. AI drafting and manual editing work together.
Attachments
Files can be attached using the Attach files button at the bottom of the composer. Attached files appear as chips that can be removed individually.
Signature and quoting
A checkbox controls whether the email signature (set in Settings) is appended. When replying, another checkbox controls whether the original message is quoted below the new text.
Sending
Press Send to dispatch the email. For emails composed manually in the composer, sending is direct (the user pressed the button, so approval is implicit).
When the assistant drafts an email through chat (outside the composer), it goes to the Approvals page instead.
The Approvals page
Any email drafted by the assistant through chat goes to the Approvals page rather than being sent immediately. Emails generated by standing instructions also land here (unless the instruction includes the word "automatically").
Each pending approval shows:
- The full draft: recipients, subject, and body.
- A warning flag if any recipient is someone who has never been emailed before.
- If generated by a standing instruction, the rule that triggered it.
- A link to the conversation where the draft was created.
Actions:
- Approve and send dispatches the email immediately.
- Edit switches to an editable view where recipients, subject, and body can be changed before approving.
- Reject discards the draft without sending.
Below the pending section, a Recent list shows previously approved, rejected, and automatically executed actions.
The assistant sidebar
On the right side of the Mail tab (or as a bottom sheet on mobile), the assistant chat panel provides context-aware help.
When a message is open, the assistant can see its contents. Ask to summarise it, draft a reply, spot what needs action, or explain something in the email.
Multiple emails can be selected in the inbox list to ask about several at once.
Sync
Mail syncs automatically on the configured interval (adjustable in Settings under Connections). Press Sync now in the inbox header for an immediate refresh.
The amount of email history kept in the app is configurable (7 days to 6 months) in Settings under Connections. Older messages age out of the local vault but remain with the email provider.
